I took an old fashioned approach and actually mailed a letter to Mr. Leslie Moonves of CBS Entertainment in regards to the cancellation of my favorite television show, “Judging Amy”. If you are interested in saving “Judging Amy”, I urge you to do the same. Please feel free to use mine as a template, however, you may wish to remove the part about being a radio programmer, unless you really are.
I feel like an injustice has been committed and I’m quite sick of network television telling us what we should be watching when we clearly are enjoying something else. I’m also quite appalled at the lack of respect shown to the older audience (Judging Amy was skewing too “old” in demographics) because it is perceived that they do not spend as much money with advertisers as younger people do.
Mr. Leslie Moonves
President and CEO
CBS Entertainment
51 West 52nd Street
New York, NY 10019Dear Mr. Moonves:
I am writing in regard to the recent decision to cancel the popular television drama “Judging Amy”. In short, I feel that you have made a terrible mistake in canceling this fine television program.
“Judging Amy” was the one show on television that I truly looked forward to watching. I realize that I perhaps do not quite fit your target demographic as a 36 year old male. As a radio programmer, I understand the importance of that coveted 18-49 target audience, the folks that allegedly spend the most amount of money with advertisers. However, “Judging Amy” appealed to a broader audience. I know people of many ages, young and old that enjoyed the strong, quality ensemble of fine actors. “Judging Amy” appealed to many types of viewers. There are those that enjoyed the escapism of peering into the lives of the Gray family. Then others appreciated the awareness the show brought to the family court system. I could wait until the weekend to watch “The West Wing” or ?Medium? off my TiVo, but “Judging Amy” deserved to be watched as it was aired, Tuesday nights at 10 p.m.
In a sea of mediocre reality shows and dubious quality sitcoms, I find it difficult to believe that “Judging Amy” was in any way tarnishing the image of CBS to the point of needing cancellation. I also find it difficult to believe that you?re filling the Tuesday 10 p.m. slot with an inferior carbon copy of the show.
I have made a point of noting the advertisers that supported “Judging Amy” and have made an effort to do business with them. I can not say that I will do the same for “Close To Home’.
Please reconsider the cancellation of “Judging Amy”. At the very least, allow the faithful viewers the dignity of a proper closure of the series.
Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
They probably found another large city that looks the same as the others that they feel needs a CSI show. What a shame they are too ignorant to leave good programming on such as Judging Amy and Joan of Arcadia. CBS just doesn’t seem to get it….and I’m in the demographic they say they want!
I agree Judging Amy was an excellent show. I am very angry with the decision to cancel the show right now. I think we should at least get one more season to close out the show properly. Most people I know want to see Amy and Bruce get together and what better way to end it then on that note. Please give us at lease one more season and end the show right. Most shows that have to main characters that everyone wants to see get together, allow them to do so in the serie finale and the fans know about. Please give it another chance.
Why is it that when there is a great program on TV that it ends up getting cancelled?
I feel programming has to be diverse and this program obviously appealed to perhaps an “older” group – but that is because we know what is great entertainment.
In my opinion Judging Amy is one of the very best progams I have watched for a very long time. This show is well written and has a cast of actors that is bar none – they are all excellent.
Hopefully, you will reconsider.
I totally agree that CBS dropped the ball by cancelling this show.
It was one of the few clean ones still on the air. I am so burnt out on reality shows….why would i want to watch reality when i live it everyday.
A superb cast needs a proper sendoff and this show is not exception…they should at least let them have a season finale which they deserve instead of totally pulling the rug out from under them, which they did.
I have been a social worker for 24 years and my coworkers and I enjoyed the show and could definitely relate to the issues presented. I also loved the disfunction of a family who has a judge and social worker in them; just goes to prove that even though we serve in these capacities, we still have family problems just like everyone else.
PLEASE CBS…..DON’T LET US DOWN!
Please don’t cancel JUDGING AMY, it is the best. Believe it or not, it is about the only show I watch on T.V. every Tuesday night.
I’M REALLY TIRED OF REALITY SHOWS AND ALTHOUGH I DO LIKE SOME OF THE CRIME SHOWS, THATS NOT ALL I WANT TO WATCH. WHEN YOU CANCEL JUDGING AMY AND JOAN OF ARCADIA. YOU LEAVE US WITH REALITY SHOWS AND CRIME SHOWS WHAT EVER HAPPEN TO HAVING A VARITY OF SHOWS. PLUS I THINK IT’S REALLY RUDE TO CANCEL A SHOW WITHOUT GIVING IT SOME KIND OF CLOSER. IT MAKES ME TO NOT EVEN WANT TO WATCH TV ANYMORE. I REALLY GET TIRED OF SHOWS I LIKE GETTING CANCELED. BESIDES DO WE REALLY NEED TO SEE ANOTHER PERSON EAT A BUG…..

My wife and I watched Judging Amy from the very beginning and were completely devoted to watching it when it came on. The diversity and intelegence of the program, as well as the fine cast of actors made it something to look forward to every Tuesday evening. I think that given the success of the show and the ratings should have out weighed the inept management of CBS to cancel….But that is why
CBC has been in the toilet for years….Judging Amy was CBS’s chance to redeem themselves in the programming arena, and once again have made a very bad judgment call. I will no longer be watching anything on CBS, including their news programs. I am thoroughly dissapointed in their decision and I do not wish them any success in the future and of their bad choice of programs they are going to air.
Sincerely,

I just started watching Judging Amy this past summer with reruns on TNT and LOVE it. Now I find out that it’s cancelled! It’s the best show on TV – why are we left with so many ridiculous reality programs? I want Judging Amy back.
Please reconsider cancelling “Judging Amy”. It is a great teaching show for young and old families. Thank you.

I was very disappointed when I heard Judging Amy was cancelled. I started watching the show about a year ago, watching reruns on TNT, and loved it. I looked forward to Tuesday nights and can not believe that it just was cancelled, especially without any closure. It was a great show, and many different people, of different ages, were able to enjoy the show. I believe the cancellation of Judging Amy was a very bad decision.
I am truly disappointed with CBS for cancelling Judging Amy. I’ve been a fan of the show since day one. It was my escape on Tuesday night…watching this quality show.
Did CBS find another city for CSI?? What will happen when viewers get tired of watching the CSI programs?
Maybe CBS should have a disclaimer on all of their programs … 18 – 39 year old viewers only. Are there any programs left on CBS???
I would settle on a 2 hr finale. Better yet, a partial season to finish this quality show.

Please do not cancel Judging Amy. I have just discovered it on TNT and recently learned CBS cancelled the series. Please don’t leave the viewers hanging the way things are. Can we at least have a finale with some closure? Judging Amy is definitely one of the best prgrams on Television right now. I am so sick of REALITY SHOWS. We need some decent prgramming, please reconsider your decision.
I think Judging Amy is/was the best show on TV. To cancel it was surely an injustice to the millions of viewers that tuned in every week. I can’t even imagine any other series or realty show coming close to the ratings that CBS could get with a show like Judging Amy. Please put it back on TV.
I agree with all the other messages on this site. I was a late comer to Judging Amy, but through TNT, I caught up quickly. I have been a foster parent/adoptivep parent for 12 years. I love the tenacity of the Gray family. I hope to grow up and be able to be an advocate for my children and other children like Amy and Maxine. CBS, you really messed up. We are a loyal group of people. You owe us a closer.

I really enjoyed the show. It was one of my favories!
It is a shame that the people at CBS just don’t get it! I would be happy watching the show for another 6 years. If the writing, plot, humor and drama kept up.
I hope they reconsider this cancellation. It was quite a shock not to see “AMY” on the line up this season.
CBS shame on you!
I am so sad about Judging Amy not being on anymore. Compared to a lot of smut this program was one that I would watch. It represented a family and ideals. It showed hope in the court system. It showed judges that really does care about people. It shows real people in day to day lives and problem solving. I watch very little tv because what is on and now you took what I would watch away. No warning you just decide. What about our opinion? I for one will really miss this program for the wonderful way it was put together and the wonderful actors. So sad. I guess I will be back to not watching tv again. I really believe you should reconsider. Some people do not know what they have until they blow it.
It is interesting to read all the comments about losing our beloved Amy and ofcourse the great actress Tyne Daly. The comments are the same,we love the show because it had great WRITING,intelligence & heart. There was an audience, and if you continue to feed garbarge on the tube, you’ll lose viewers. The world is not just made up of 20 year olds.Given a chance, and some quality writing, they too might actually tune in.

I am so sorry Judging Amy was cancelled. The show was so fun to watch…a real tear-jerker. I loved it and am sad that it got pulled.
I am also a late comer to the Judging Amy TV series shown on TNT. It is one of the few shows on network TV that I’m not embarassed to have my children watch with me. It is the only show that I don’t mind seeing re-runs of either. I’m so sick of crude tv. Our society is in deseparate need of a moral adjustment. Let us have the few shows that don’t make nudity and cursing a top priority. Give us some shows that actually show people being compassionate and moral. I don’t get it. It was the only show worth watching on your network, and you took it off the air. What were you thinking?
