Truman has decided he’s a big fan of the bannister. He enjoys looking down on the dining room. I have concerns about him falling but he’s insistent on enjoying his new perch.

My cat ended up costing me a vet visit because he sprained his leg! After that I built a banister tray with a lip to keep him a little more contained! https://blogography.com/archives/2019/04/caturday-106.html
Your experience with your cats was the first thing I thought of when he first jumped up there. The design of the house doesn’t lend itself to a safety net of any sort up there, but he only goes up there when I go up there so it’s not very often.
We used to let him walk out on the roof deck in the evening (under our watchful eye) but he decided it’s more fun to walk on the lip between the railing and the edge of the house instead of walking on the actual roof, so he doesn’t go out there anymore. He seems content with watching the birds from the screen doors, with just the occasional jump up onto that bannister.
