Tech Sweep.

I have been wiping out online accounts all over creation today. Reddit? Nine accounts gone. Firefox Relay? Not worth the money. Random gmail accounts? Deleted.

Since adding ActivityPub functionality to my blog I’m quite pleased with where I am in my online social connected sphere of existence. For those wondering what the hell I just said, that ActivityPub thing means every blog entry is pushed to the Fediverse, which is a collection of servers that talk to one another through various mechanisms. The contents of my blog entries appear in feeds very similar to what Twitter used to be. When I talk about Mastodon, that’s another part of the Fediverse that’s very much like what Twitter used to be. I have a separate Mastodon account as well. Being able to write long form on the blog and share it in this fashion just makes me happy.

I like it when things are connected without being warped by corporate algorithms.

I’m finding myself getting further and further away from corporately hosted systems and just doing my own thing. Retro? Probably. Great for my mental health? Absolutely.

By the way, today I learned that I can not easily delete Messages, Facetime, or Apple News (and probably amongst other things I haven’t tried yet) from my MacOS machine I’m still using for video editing.

I’m also on a kick to eliminate as many notifications as possible.
